About CLARK

Every production tells you how it wants to be made.

Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, and now based in New York City, Clark Worden discovered directing through a love of music, performance, and the connections they create. He has always been fascinated by the collaborative process of making theatre. That fascination evolved into a love of stories about people reaching for something just beyond their grasp and choosing to keep searching, even when the outcome is uncertain.

Rather than imposing an idea onto a piece, he begins by asking what it is already trying to become. His role is not to reinvent a piece, but to uncover the world already living inside it.

To Clark, directing feels a lot like hosting a party. Growing up in a family that treated bringing people together as an art form shaped how he understands community. A rehearsal room is much the same: a space where artists feel welcomed, challenged, and able to take risks, allowing the strongest ideas to emerge together.

Clark believes theatre asks something of us that no other art form can. It invites performers and audiences to breathe together and imagine together, creating an experience that exists only for the people in that room. He hopes his work reminds people why that matters and plays a small part in carrying this art form forward.
